Restoration

Bacteria that accumulate on teeth can convert sugars in food and drink into acids which in turn demineralize and destroy teeth. This process leads to the formation of cavities. A diet high in sugary or acidic foods and drinks makes teeth more susceptible to developing cavities.

In order to assess the presence of cavities, your dentist must do an intraoral examination and take X-rays. When it has been identified, your dentist will clean the decayed portion of the tooth and then place either an amalgam (grey) or composite (white) restoration. In some cases, if the cavity is made too deep, root canal treatment may be necessary.
